This study aimed to apply art therapy in conjunction with parent counseling to reduce problem behaviors in a preschooler and examine behavioral changes induced by the intervention. The participant of this study was a female child aged six years and four months. The art therapy program consisted of a total of 13 sessions, and each session was conducted once a week for 45 minutes in conjunction with a 40-minute session of parent counseling. The Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 1.5-5(CBCL 1.5-5) and the Draw-a-Person-in-the-Rain (DAPR) test were used as assessment tools. These tests were performed before and after the application of art therapy, and changes in the assessment results of the two scales were presented. In addition, changes in the problem behaviors of the participant were comparatively examined using observation data for each session and parents’ reports on the preschooler’s problem behaviors. The main results of this study were as follows. First, art therapy combined with parental counseling was effective in reducing problem behavior of preschooler. Second, in art therapy combined with parental counseling, the total problem behavior score, internalization, and externalization problem behavior of CBCL 1.5-5 changed from clinical to normal. Third, art therapy with parental counseling showed a positive change in DAPR, and the preschooler's statements also changed positively. Therefore, it can be said that parallel art therapy for parental counseling to reduce problem behavior in infants is effective in reducing problem behavior of the preschooler. The significance of this study is that it was possible to confirm the importance and effectiveness of parental counseling in art therapy for preschoolers.
